On a cold and rainy winter day, the Fantail Room decided to warm up by doing some baking! We chose a dairy and egg free cake recipe, picked out all our ingredients, and got stuck into work. Georgia worked as the head baker while Kirsten and the tamariki were the assistants, helping to measure out the sugar, flour, oil and lemon.

Each child had a turn adding ingredients in, and we worked as a team to stir it all up. There were lots of “oohs!” and “ahhs!” as the mixture came together. There was also lots of taste testing – one reason why we’d picked this recipe was that the tamariki were free to have a little taste because testing it raw wouldn’t upset tummies.

Our adventurous little tamariki also experimented with trying lemons – we gave them each a slice to try. Some found it sour, but most didn’t seemed that bothered by it! Gabriel really loved the lemons and sat chewing on it while his friends mixed away.

Such a fun activity! The best part of all was the eating of the cake of course. Bon appetite!
