At BestStart Lemon Street, baking is an important part of our curriculum and we do it every week. Ngā tamariki gain valuable life skills through this socially interactive experience and like to bring special recipes from home to bake to share with their Lemon Street whānau.

Kaiako guide, support and explain each step of the process so tamariki gain a understanding of following a recipe in order to determine the outcome of the product.

Throughout the baking process children's learning is extended in many ways, mathematics when they are measuring, cutting and dividing.  Literacy as they are following recipes,  teamwork as they work together to bake tasty treats.  Fine and gross motor-skill's are also developing throughout this entire process.

A special part of baking is that we use eggs from our own chickens as part of the ingredients.  Baking day always provides us with delicious nutritious afternoon tea.
