Be smart, eat smart

The teachers have been discussing with the children about the different foods and fruits and their benefits. Today the children were provided with a basket of food from vegetable, fruit, grain, dairy and protein groups. Every child had a turn to pick one item out of basket, show to their friends. They discussed why they should or should not eat them. The children engaged in asking lots of questions about what healthy and unhealthy food is. The teachers in the Tuatara Room (Preschool) are supporting children participating in this learning journey.

BestStart St Andrews is lucky to have a nutritionist on the teaching team who supports and works to create awareness in children on healthy eating and how to keep themselves healthy. We have been receiving amazing feedback from parents on ways children are using the learning from the centre at home, when going shopping with them and making good choices when helping parents prepare meals at home.
