Beautiful Butterfly
We had a visit from a beautiful butterfly. It had found its way into our sandpit and it couldn't get out, so Lydia rescued it and brought it inside for a visit and some refreshments.
The tamariki were fascinated by the butterfly and loved to observe it having a drink of the sugar water.
Some children knew to keep their hands away, that the butterfly was delicate and that we had to be careful around it. Others just wanted to touch, to feel its paper-thin wings.
Through this experience, our tamariki were learning about respect and care of creatures. They were developing their curiosity, observation skills and understanding of the world around them.
We all spent a long time just watching the butterfly. It was so beautiful!
