This week we were lucky enough to be visited by some baby chicks!  They were yellow soft, fluffy and very cute.

In the Pepe room, the tamariki were all so interested in the chicks and showed how gentle they could be as they reached into see what they felt like. The pepe (babies) were demonstrating respect for the living world, while exploring the soft and fluffy texture of the baby chicks feathers. Thanks Becky for bringing them in, it was a great way to make connections between home life and our centre.

In the Fern room, the tamariki (children) were very excited to meet the wee chicks. They were very eager to have a pat and sat nicely around the container waiting for Becky to bring one out. The tamariki were very interested in the sounds the chicks were making and some of the tamariki decided it would be fun to copy the chicks sounds. We had lots of laughs and conversation about how the chicks may have felt and how we had to use gentle hands when patting the baby chicks as they were small and fragile.
