Beep Beep Day 2020
Today our preschool ‘bubble’ supported ‘Brake’ the road safety charity by being involved in their Beep, Beep Day for 2020. We provided the tamariki with fun hands (ringaringa) on learning experiences where they had opportunities to learn (ako) the basics of road safety. During these experiences the kaiako had discussions with the tamariki around road safety, the dangers of traffic, holding hands with a grown up when walking near roads, finding safe places to cross the road and always sitting in a child seat when travelling by car. We raised awareness to get tamariki and their whānau involved by providing information and learning experiences through Storypark so they were able to participate in ‘Beep, Beep Day’ while in their ‘bubbles’ at home (kāinga). The tamariki enjoyed learning about ‘zebra’ crossings then making zebra masks and using the pretend people in their role play (tākaro) to safely cross the road on the car (motokā) mat. They liked making stop and go traffic lights which they also used in their role play. They used the bikes to ride around a chalk road track, being careful of each other as they carefully walked safely across the ‘road’ as well as stopping and going at the traffic lights. They all had a great time participating in fun experiences as they further developed their road safety knowledge.
