BestStart Cambridge Celebrates Samoan Language Week!
Here at BestStart Cambridge, we enjoy celebrating many special events. This week was no exception as we celebrated Samoan Language Week. It was an incredible opportunity to promote Samoan culture, language, and traditions within our early childhood centre. The theme for Samoan Language Week 2023 is "Mitamita i lau gagana, maua’a lou fa’asinomaga", which translates to “Be proud of your language and grounded in your identity”.
Throughout the week, our children engaged in a range of activities, arts and crafts, and music that celebrated the Samoan culture. We learned about the Samoan language while practicing basic phrases and exploring traditional Samoan storytelling and dance. The children also had the opportunity to create Samoan-inspired arts and crafts, including painting, designing traditional Samoan patterns, preparing and tasting some delicious local delicacies, and building a mini fale together!
Celebrating Samoan Language Week allowed us to promote diversity and inclusion within our early childhood centre, teaching our children about the importance of respecting and valuing different cultures and languages. We are incredibly proud of our team for their enthusiasm and participation throughout the week. We look forward to celebrating other cultural events in the future and continuing to promote a welcoming and inclusive environment for all here at BestStart Cambridge.
