The team at BestStart Greenmeadows (Napier) are on a journey to deepen our understanding of our centre’s pepeha ~ the roots of our localised curriculum. Our Kahui Ako group invited us to join the Ngāti Porou hapū Education Programme, our local iwi. This is a series of wānanga to learn about Ngāti Porou hapū tikanga, pepeha, whakapapa and local history. The first wānanga was held at our local Marae, Waiohiki Marae. What an experience! Beautiful, rich learning about our local history and a fun game of Matau Maui.
