BestStart Morrinsville Annual Zoo Trip!
At the start of the year, we took our tamariki and whaanau on our annual centre-wide excursion to Hamilton Zoo. Our tamariki love this excursion and get so excited throughout the year. We had an amazing number of whaanau helpers which ensured we had safer ratios and we could enjoy the zoo in small groups. We started our day with a long bus trip over to Hamilton which everyone loved.
The tamariki were singing and playing "I spy" games which supported their communication and recognition of the outside world. When we arrived, we had a quick morning tea break which always just ends up in a big play on the playground. All of the tamariki were challenging themselves on new play equipment and obstacles.
Then it was time to head around the zoo! We split off into small groups which allowed everyone to go at their own pace and see the animals they most wanted to see. A lot of the tamariki favourite animals were the tigers, giraffes, and hippopotamus. It was cool that they liked seeing the hippopotamus' because this links directly back to one of our favourite books, "That's not a hippopotamus!" We re-read the book when we got back and the tamariki could recount their day with the animals that they saw. Although it was a hot day, the children had a really great time and we will still call this our annual zoo trip!
