At BestStart South Road Hawera we place a big importance on our traditions and rituals, this reflects in our annual bus trip to Brooklands Zoo and Paradise Berry farm in New Plymouth. We had an outstanding amount of parent helpers for this trip which demonstrates our strong relationships within our centre families.

We fundraised for this trip within our community through raffle hampers and children’s photo calendars. A huge thank you to our Whānau for your amazing efforts to help make this possible. Our tamariki were so excited to go on a big bus all the way to New Plymouth to explore our wider community. On the way there they had conversations with their kaiako and parent helpers about the different kinds of animals they may see at the Zoo and how excited they were to pick strawberries at the berry farm and get a real fruit ice cream!

The tamariki enjoyed seeing all the animals, exploring the playground and enjoying a picnic lunch at the zoo. They loved picking strawberries at the berry farm, they were making sure to only pick the red ones, not the green strawberries. We had conversations around how the green strawberries are not ready to eat yet.

Once we were done picking strawberries it was time for a real fruit ice cream, these were so delicious!! The bus ride home sure was quiet, everyone having a little sleep after our big day out!
