BestStart Stoddard Road visits Gracedale Village!
What a fabulous trip we had! Our Preschool children and teachers visited Gracedale Retirement Village. We had fun walking in our local community and talking about the different shops we have around our centre. We received a warm welcome from staff over there.
The residents were ready in the big hall and waiting for our children. Our tamariki did a performance for them and sang 'Tutira Maina' and 'Taku Poi'. Afterwards, the children went to all the residents and greeted them. It was lovely to see them mix and mingle with all the residents. Our children shared the cupcakes which brought them joy. A special morning tea was arranged for our children and balloons were given for them to play with the residents. It was such a unique experience for all of us and our children were so lucky to explore their local community.
Interacting with seniors can help children build social connections and learn the importance of fostering relationships across different age groups. This not only provides valuable learning opportunities but also creates meaningful connections and positive experiences with the elderly residents. These visits can be enriching and beneficial for both children and the elderly, fostering mutual respect, understanding, and a sense of community.
We are hoping to visit them regularly and build relationships with our local community and institutions.
