BestStart Tawa South believes in whanaungatanga (relationships). The team lives this value each day and practices this through our celebrations and cultural events.

We recently celebrated Diwali, known as the festival of lights, where this year our families engaged in cooking cultural food and preparing cultural dances for us too. Our "Set For School group" has activities ready for tamariki each day to be involved in various aspects of getting ready for school through mat times and making sure that they connect with the tamarikis' whanau to be involved in discussions regarding their hopes and dreams for their child.

We also celebrate an artist each month and this month we explored Vincent van Gogh. Children got involved in learning his way of performing art. We are now looking towards exploring a Maori artist next. Our families contributed towards our yearly food donations for the Salvation Army and this year it was a huge success as we were able to donate three big boxes for the ones who needed them more.

Our whanau Christmas gifts this year included cookies, cards, Christmas tree ornaments, and a very special calendar with each child's portrait. All the hard mahi put together in a child's bag to take home.
