June has been a month of creativity, collaboration, and transformation in Ruma Hikuwai as our tamariki worked together to make our learning space more meaningful and inviting.

A major highlight was our wearable arts show, where tamariki explored textures, colours, and natural materials to design their own wearable pieces.

This experience encouraged imagination, confidence, and pride as tamariki showcased their creations to whānau and kaiako. Alongside this celebration, we focused on refreshing and uplifting our room environment.

Tamariki painted vibrant fish and eels, experimented with colour mixing, and helped decorate the new Ruma Hikuwai letters. These projects supported reasoning and problem solving as tamariki made choices, shared resources, and worked together to bring each idea to life.

Their artwork now proudly sits on display, helping create a space that reflects our awa, our local stories, and the identity of our room. We also continued offering sensory experiences such as warm water play with glitter and feathers, linking gently to our Waipunarangi learning while keeping our main focus on building a welcoming, connected environment.

Through all these experiences, tamariki strengthened their sense of belonging, creativity, and ownership. Ruma Hikuwai is truly becoming a space shaped by its tamariki.
