Today BestStart Raureka supported Daffodil Day by holding a 'Yellow Day'. This year our support went to one of our valued centre Dads Sukhdeep (Hudson's Dad).  Five years ago, Sukhdeep was diagnosed with leukaemia and during this time the Cancer Society offered and supported Sukhdeep through his treatment. Now five years on and fully recovered, Sukhdeep leads Daffodil Day fundraising efforts in the Hawke's Bay by shaving his head for charity.

In support we dressed in yellow and provided a beautiful selected lunch that whānau could purchase for $5.00. All proceeds went to support Sukhdeep in his 'Brave the Shave' event. We had such a wonderful, fun full day, with lots of activities. With whānau support we raised $200 to add to Sukhdeep's collection.

Not only has this brave dad fought leukaemia, but is an honoured member for the Hastings District. Sukhdeep has been awarded  the ‘Hastings District Council Civic Honours Award’, the first Punjabi Indian to receive such an award.

This award recognises a decade of community work and volunteer fundraising, which has seen Sukhdeep raise over $400,000 for six different non-profit groups.

As the president of the Hawke's Bay Multicultural Association, Sukhdeep has helped organise the annual International Cultural Day and led efforts to support ethnic communities in the area during the Covid019 lockdown.

As a centre and community, we are so proud to be part of this successful fundraising effort for the Cancer Society, which in total saw Sukhdeep raise $2100 this year for the Cancer Society.

Thank you to all our whānau that supported us to support Sukhdeep.
