Our nga pakeke tamariki have been enjoying bubble play exploration. Blowing and catching bubbles is so much FUN!

Our tamariki used funnels and recycled milk bottles to make bubble wands and bubble blowers. We combined water and soap to make a sticky bubble mixture and then we poured this into our tuff tray ready for bubble time. This also supported important learning outcomes for our tamariki. Bubble play allows our tamariki to develop their social and emotional competencies taking turns with their friends and expressing their joy and happiness with each other while chasing after the bubbles.

Bubble play promotes positive interactions among tamariki and helps build the skills needed for developing whanaungatanga (friendships). Catching and popping bubbles in the air and on the ground has another very important learning outcome related to developing the skills for school preparation. Bubble play helps tamariki strengthen their visual tracking skills, following an object with their eyes to fix, focus and track. Visual tracking prepares tamariki for school, as left and right eye tracking is essential for writing and reading readiness.
