The children have loved exploring with all their senses recently and experimenting with texture, smell, appearance (plus a little taste testing of course) We have been setting up opportunities for the tamariki to explore and create their own theories about how objects, substances and natural materials interact with each other.

A favourite has been using the water trough to create bubbles and encouraging the tamariki to move their hands in the water to create small bubbles in the surface. Then supporting them to make bigger or faster motions to increase the number and size of the bubbles. This became a little messy as the water sloshed over the sides of the trough, but also resulted in lots of excitement and laughter as the tamariki gained a sense of achievement at their discoveries.

After some further exploration, it was discovered that handfuls of bubbles could also be blown off your hand into the air. Soon this became a challenge between some hua, attempting to get their handful further than their friends. Such a fun and interactive way for the tamariki to explore, experiment and build their own theories about how the world around them works, while building relationships.
