Building And Construction Learning
Kaiako at Greenwood Street supports each tamaiti to become confident learners. This is achieved by allowing them to lead their own plays. Children learn by playing. They follow their interest and kaiako support their play by providing provocations to extend their learning-kia tupu maatou mai te takaro me te ako.
Kiwi Room's focus is building and construction. Kaiako provides opportunities for children to extend their interest in this area. Building and construction benefits children by allowing them to be creative, problem solve, and develop fine motor skills, and hand and eye coordination. Kaiako uses intentional teaching plans to advance children's learning goals using a range of teaching strategies. Free play also forms an important part of our curriculum at Greenwood Street. we believe that free play is important for healthy brain development. It allows children to use their creativity, imagination, dexterity, and cognitive and physical abilities. Free play is a great way to support holistic development. Children play together where they are encouraged to build their social interactions, emotional confidence, and well-being. The aspects of well-being from a Maori Worldview are based upon Te Whare Tapawha where the four pillars of mental, wairua social and physical well-being must be balanced for holistic health so that children can be at their best to learn and develop.
