Building our bird house
Here in the Studio at First Steps Grey Lynn we have been busy building a bird house! We love watching the birds that nest in the rafters of the Studio deck, so we thought it would be cool to make a house for them. First, we had to choose what to make it with and make a plan of how to put it together. I had plenty of people come and help me!
When we finished our bird house we all sat down together to talk about it. The children decided that we should build a bird nest inside so that the birds might want to come. Some of the children realised that bird nests are made of leaves and twigs, so they all helped collect some to put in the bird house.
The last step was to of course choose where to put it and in the end we decided to put it in the tree.
What an amazing way to care for our environment and the animals that live with us here! I am so proud at how much whakatau (determination) everyone had to get the project done. It took us several days to complete our birdhouse but no one ever gave up. There was so much excitement, so many people asking me, "Can we do the bird house?" that I could tell that this was something that we all really enjoyed doing.
