Building the Future
At Best Start Stokes Valley we love getting out our Carpentry area, tamariki really learn hands on and have fun at the same time. Exploring all the tools hammers, saws and tape measures, this is learning through play at it's finest. Hand eye co-ordination is an important part of this activity as well as sharing knowledge, this is a big part of our local curriculum call ako (learning fron each other) tamariki supporting each other to learn and kaiako often learn all about the skills tamariki already have. Tamariki hammer and use many things wood, bottle lids, materials to create anything they can imagine, problem solving and bringing a thought and idea come to life is fantastic and tamariki are always so proud of what they create. There is always lots of kōrero around helping whānau out at home fixing and making things, we love experiences that link home life to life here at the centre. Helping each other and learning to ask for help are always apart of the learning in the carpentry area, when do I need help? and when can I do it for myself are big questions and it is important tamariki are empowered to discover this for themselves.
