Each week at BestStart Welcome Bay, a group of children go to Bush Kindy! We are very lucky to be situated right next to Otumanga stream, commonly known as Johnsons Reserve in Welcome Bay which is where we take the children each week for this local excursion.

Bush Kindy is an awesome opportunity for our children to explore, play, and learn in the beautiful nature - right outside our centre. These trips have become part of our weekly routine and the children love getting out of the centre. They often come back to share with their friends what they have seen and learnt. This can range from natural treasures such as leaves and sticks to knowledge about plants, like which leaves of the kawakawa plant are the best for health purposes.

Bush Kindy provides a unique environment where children can develop social skills, fine and gross motor skills, problem-solving and risk-taking skills, and express themselves in creative ways all out in nature. Kaiako plan activities based on current interests and learning happening within the centre and link it to our centre priority of kaitaikitanga which relates to respecting our world by promoting awareness, knowledge, and care for our environment and for papatuanuku.
