In our Preschool Room at BestStart Peachgrove we have had a project on Bees - this interest started from a few of our tamariki finding a bee in one of our tree's outside. Over the last few weeks we have been investigating and learning all about Bees. We started off with finding out what we already knew about Bees - then we looked at the differences between a Honey Bee and a Bumble bee. We then explored the life cycle of a honey bee. The tamariki leant about the different body parts of a honey bee and we had lots and lots of different art opportunities for our tamariki to draw or paint their own bee's! We also explored how Bees make Honey and looked at a real honey comb! We all got to taste some delicious honey and everyone agreed it was sweet and yummy!

Through this planning our children’s curiosity was fostered and their capacity for sustained interests was extended, our tamariki were developing skills and interests and completing longer-term projects and our tamariki were encouraged with learn with and alongside others.
