Exploring and immersing ourselves into the natural environment is a beautiful way of introducing the children to our Earth, Ranginui and Papatuanuku, with the aim of developing a sense of care, respect and ownership for the natural environment.

At BestStart Pyes Pa we are committed to giving each child real life experiences that will support their development and learning in a beautiful, natural and exciting environment.

First day of Nga Tamariki Taiao is focused allowing the children to actively explore the environment, by asking questions, making discoveries and collecting resources. As time goes on we have tasks for the children to complete where they research and learn more about the greater outdoors.

Todays visit was an introduction the bush environment, to the common trees in the area and rules when in the outdoors, like staying in a group, what to do if lost and around respecting nature. We also have a picnic lunch where we talk about what foods to choose from lunchboxes at the correct time of the day, how to opens packets and re packing bags.

What learning is happening here:

Citizenship:  Developing a react and sense of responsibility for the natural world.   Making connections to our wider community.

Empowerment:  Leading our own learning, having a voice, asking questions, making discoveries and taking on challenges.

Relationships:  Making group contributions, supporting others, communication.
