Carpentry with Mosiac Shapes
Here at BestStart Riverbend Rd, our tamariki enjoy projects where they can learn to think creatively and use the world around them to create masterpieces.
Today we did this using the wooden mosaic building shapes, and our tamariki used their knowledge of our community to construct. Selecting the different shapes and colours to depict their homes, they got busy with the hammer and nails (just like a real builder).
Some were small, and some were big, but their imaginations knew no bounds as they shared a piece of who they were with kaiako.
Our kaiako supported tamariki to uphold their mana by surrounding them with te kete aronui as they developed their carpentry skills, encouraging them to be active participants in their own learning journeys.
Our tamariki enjoyed contributing to our centre curriculum by sharing their thoughts, ideas and creations. This carpentry experience also offered tamariki the opportunity to learn to design and build things while developing a wide range of physical and thinking skills. Learning often relates to maths, science, technology and sculptural art.
