In January we celebrated Chinese New Year (the year of the rabbit) at BestStart MacDonald Street.

We organised many different activities for our children, with the help of our wonderful Kaiako Cynthia and Phoebe. Our activities ran over a few weeks and ended with our families being invited to join us for a special afternoon of celebrations, art and craft making and eating traditional Chinese food together.

Our tamariki had the opportunity to make and eat delicious dumplings, make lanterns, create dragons, play with red water, make paper fans, create firework art, sing Chinese songs, listen to stories about Chinese New Year and to dress up all in lucky red.
To end our celebrations, we gifted each of our children a red envelope with a chocolate gold coin inside, to wish them good luck and best wishes for the year ahead.

Thankyou to Cynthia and Phoebe for teaching us about the Chinese New Year, we can't wait until next year's celebration.
Celebrating Chinese New Year brings a unique cultural experience to the children in our centre. Te Whariki, our Early Childhood curriculum says that with guidance and encouragement, children become increasingly capable of making connections between people, places and things in their world and enjoying hearing stories and retelling and creating them.

Come and visit us at BestStart MacDonald Street and see all that we have to offer.
