We celebrated Cultural Diversity Day with our tamariki, whanau, and our local community here at BestStart Kensington Crossing. It was great to see our children dressed up displaying their cultures with a variety of different cultural outfits including traditional Maori dress, both North and South Indian, South African, and Filipino traditional outfits.

Our Mako tamariki and some of the children from Kina room did wonderful performances, including singing two songs in Te reo Maori and performing a Spanish dance. The tamariki had been practicing for nearly a month and although they were a little shy on the day, the audience didn't mind. We invited our local community groups to come in and perform and had performances such as Chinese dancing, belly dancing, Latin dancing, and West African dancing. Our children and families were invited to the stage to join them.

Hamish and Joselito showcased their outfits from the Philippines and we wrapped up the show by blowing big bubbles and we even invited a clown! It was a wonderful morning with a lot of fun and entertainment. BestStart Kensington Crossing is a very culturally diverse centre and it is important to the Kaiako and whanau that the children’s cultures are represented and celebrated within our environment.
