At BestStart Maui, we love creating meaningful learning experiences that celebrate culture, creativity, and togetherness.
During the Chinese New Year celebrations, our younger toddler tamariki had the opportunity to take part in a hands‑on cooking experience by making dumplings.
Together, we prepared two delicious flavours — chicken and vegetables, and egg and onion, which we later enjoyed for lunch. This experience supported children’s sensory learning while also embracing cultural traditions.
We also celebrated Holi, the festival of colours, in a joyful and traditional way. Our tamariki delighted in spreading vibrant colours on one another, filling the day with laughter, excitement, and colourful memories. This celebration encouraged social interaction, self‑expression, and an appreciation for cultural diversity.
In addition, we regularly make fresh playdough for our tamariki to explore at the start of the day. Children enjoy shaping, cutting, and creating with the dough, supporting their fine motor development, hand‑eye coordination, and creativity.
At BestStart Maui, we value and respect each child’s unique background, needs, and interests. Everything our teachers do is around supporting the wellbeing, learning, and happiness of our tamariki. We believe in creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where children feel a strong sense of belonging and confidence to explore the world around them.
Just like our centre quote says "See me, know me, grow me."
