Africa Day Here at Start Sunset we celebrated Africa Day in recognition of all the countries in Africa and the independence of the Ubuntu people. Each country of Africa with its own national flag but comes together as a continent in sharing their African National Anthem and the similarities they have between their African cultures. We celebrated the countries of Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Our tamariki / children learnt about wild African animals and initiated this through play using animal masks. We enjoyed a shared morning tea of South African porridge and enjoyed the symbols, colours and activities including music and the beating of drums. In much of Africa, drums are considered to symbolize and protect royalty. They can also be considered primitive telephones for communicating with tribes that are miles away. Samoan language Talofa, celebrating Samoan language week. Our tamariki learnt new upu (words) such as Afio mai (welcome), and Tofa Soifua (Goodbye).

How to count to 10 and we are still learning our colours and new songs. We had a special lunch of sapasui and enjoyed listening to Samoan music throughout the week Philippines Independence Day Kumatsu, Filipinos celebrate their nation's Independence Day through festivities, parades and public gatherings and the reading of their declaration of Independence.
