As part of our Easter celebrations, we shared a messy play experience with our tamariki. We placed a tray outside and filled it with slime (lux soap flakes, water and dye). We added some plastic Easter eggs to use for scooping and pouring the slime. Our pēpi were very excited to get involved and climbed straight into the tray. Together they shared a sensory experience, lying down, using their whole bodies to explore the new texture. Using their hands, they picked up handfuls of slime and felt it squeeze through their fingers.  Messy Play is one of the 16 areas of play, allowing tamariki an opportunity to explore the different properties of the slime, such as texture, thickness, and how the slime moves through their hands. Tamariki also develops hand eye coordination as they learn to scoop, scrape and pour the slime.
