Celebrating events at BestStart Papatoetoe
So far this year, we've celebrated a range of events and celebrations including ANZAC Day, Holi Festival, and Easter. These events have all had very different meanings and have helped our tamariki learn various things about our history, culture, and traditions.
We remembered Anzac Day in April as the national day of commemoration of Australia and New Zealand for victims of war and for recognition of the role of their armed forces. We also celebrated Holi Festival which is a colourful Hindu festival that celebrates love, spring, and the victory of good over evil. We involved our whanau by colouring them with colored powder from their children. This was a colorful and fun experience for all including Kaiako, whanau, and children. Our children explored with artwork, water, play, messy play, and putting colored powder on everyone.
Kaiako even made vegetable fritters (bhajia) and participated in lots of music and movement with the children at the centre. Our Easter celebrations were fun and busy providing children with Easter Egg hunt. Once again, our whanau played their part by providing cozy dress-ups for children. Children collaborated with each other to search for eggs and we all had a lot of fun!
