At our centre, Filipino Language Week brought tamariki together for colourful crafts, traditional dances, games, and cultural exploration. The celebration highlighted the joy of learning about diverse cultures and the value of respect and belonging.

Language is more than communication; it reflects culture, identity, and belonging. Celebrating Filipino Language Week gave our centre a wonderful opportunity to recognise the richness of the Filipino community while helping tamariki appreciate cultural diversity in fun and meaningful ways.

Throughout the week, our learning space was filled with colour and creativity. Tamariki enjoyed face painting, trying on traditional headdresses, and creating bahay kubo (nipa hut) crafts. They also had fun designing their own Jeepneys, bright, imaginative, and uniquely Filipino.

Movement activities added even more excitement. The Tinikling dance challenged tamariki to step between bamboo poles in rhythm, sparking laughter and teamwork. The fun continued with a lively limbo rock game that everyone enjoyed.

On Friday, our “Walk Through Filipino” corner became a highlight. Tamariki explored traditional clothing, discovered Filipino food, and celebrated in our Jeepney photo booth, a favourite spot that brought smiles to all.

Beyond the joy, this celebration carried deeper meaning. By embracing Filipino Language Week, tamariki learned that every culture has beauty to share. It nurtured respect, curiosity, and belonging, reminding us that diversity is a gift that enriches us all.
