In our Toddlers classroom, this month we have celebrated Maori language week. At our daily morning mat time, we have made this our focus. Over the week we have taught tamariki how to count to 20 in Te Reo Maori, as well as in English. We have also introduced some new Waiata (songs) as well as simple words that are often heard around the classroom. We also did harakeke (flax) weaving sessions outside.  At one of our mat times during the week, the tamariki were quizzed on Te Reo words and what they meant.

Nga Tamariki have done amazing at picking this up, and Te Reo Maori is being heard a lot more within our classroom.
