Our Matariki celebration at BestStart Manukau was a truly memorable occasion that brought together children, whānau, teachers, and members of our wider community.
We were delighted to see a large number of parents attend the event and join us in celebrating this special time of reflection, connection, and learning. A highlight of the afternoon was the delicious kai prepared by our amazing chef, Kira. The food was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone and helped create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all who attended.
The children proudly performed for their families after weeks of enthusiastic practice, demonstrating confidence, perseverance, and a genuine sense of excitement. Another special feature of the celebration was a video presentation where the children recreated the story of Papatūānuku and Ranginui. Their creativity, teamwork, and understanding of this important Māori pūrākau shone through, and families thoroughly enjoyed watching their performance.
In the weeks leading up to the event, children learned about the significance of Matariki, deepening their understanding of its traditions, values, and meaning within Aotearoa New Zealand.
It was also heartwarming to welcome back children and families who have graduated from BestStart Manukau. Their presence made the celebration even more meaningful and highlighted the strong sense of belonging, connection, and community that continues long after children leave our centre.
