Celebrating Matariki at BestStart Highfield
Over the month of July, tamariki in the Whare Tipu room have been learning about Matariki and why celebrate this cultural event. Tamariki have relished participating in different creative experiences to create some amazing wall displays for all to enjoy. Kaiako have been able to read different pukapuka / books that reflect Matariki and why it is an important part of Maori culture.
Hui times have been filled with dancing to Matariki songs and practising our dance moves for our Matariki Disco. Creative experiences are a great opportunity for tamariki to explore their creative side and express themselves through art. Working on group projects has been a blast for our tamariki who loved being able to delve into creative play and learning about Matariki.
Over the month, Kaiako and tamariki have learnt the stars and their names, what each star represents, and created a Matariki constellation from different creative activities to create one big constellation. At the Matariki disco, our tamariki were able to share their works of art with their Whanau and celebrate this beautiful event with those they treasure. Kaiako treasured seeing all our amazing whanau celebrate and boogie along with their tamariki at our Matariki disco.
