Celebrating Matariki at BestStart Raumati
What an amazing celebration of Matariki we all enjoyed here at Beststart Raumati. Our Beststart Raumati whanau joined us for a special evening and it was such a lovely coming together and feeling of being connected. There were conversations of the past, the present, and lots of wishes and aspirations for the future as some tamariki prepare to take the next steps in their learning journey and move on to Kura/School.
Our kaiako planned and set up experiences related to the Matariki whetu (stars). We had a seedling planting activity, a natural collage on wooden discs with a range of shells and harakeke, Matariki-themed face painting with colourful stars, lantern making, and a Matariki colouring experience. Tamariki had helped make a yummy vegetable soup beforehand where they peeled and chopped up carrots, potatoes, kumara, and pumpkin. We added onion and parsley to a big pot of water and let it cook ready to be enjoyed by our whanau. We also made a tuna pasta dish.
Everyone enjoyed a sense of togetherness through our kai. We completed our celebration with some waiata, a kanikani (dance), and moving and swinging the fluorescent poi. Thank you for joining us, everyone. We hope you had a very happy Matariki!
