Every year for Matariki we have our own little festival, where we learn new waiata, make costumes, prepare and try new food, we have tuakana teina where our older children teach our younger children waiata and the haka.  Our older children do a little performance for all our whanau as well as having a shared dinner at the centre. Each year this event gets bigger and bigger and this year was no exception.  We had our own hangi and Paula, one of our Kaiako cooked it for us with the help of her own whanau.  As part of us coming together for this celebration we asked our whanau to donate a vegetable to put towards the hangi, the tamariki then helped prepare the vegetables and the Kaiako made up the parcels for the hangi.  We have a powhiri to welcome all our Whanau into our centre and this year I was worried we wouldn't all fit, there was so much support for our tamariki it blew us away.  It showed us just how great our community is and how support and aroha they have for us.
