On Thursday, 9 July 2026, our BestStart Herewini community came together to celebrate Matariki with a wonderful afternoon shared with whānau and friends.
Our centre was beautifully decorated, creating a warm and welcoming space for everyone. Families enjoyed capturing special memories at our Matariki photo frame, while tamariki explored a range of fun activities, including star cookie decorating, a colouring competition and creative experiences inspired by Matariki.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was watching our tamariki proudly perform their Matariki waiata for their whānau. It was heartwarming to see their confidence shine as they shared their learning and celebrated this special time of year.
Everyone then gathered to enjoy a delicious shared kai, giving families the opportunity to connect, talk, and celebrate together. Seeing our community come together in this way reflected the true spirit of Matariki remembering the past, celebrating the present and looking forward to the future with hope.
A heartfelt thank you to all whānau and friends who joined us and contributed to making the afternoon special. It was a beautiful celebration filled with laughter, connection and togetherness, and the perfect way to begin the Matariki weekend.
