Matariki is the Māori name for the stars also known as the Pleiades star cluster in the constellation Taurus. Celebrations begin on the day of the first new moon following the rising of the star cluster.

On July 13 the Matariki star cluster will rise in New Zealand skies, beginning a month of celebration. On the 26th of June we celebrated with our whanau, we started the morning off with Matariki activities like, sung a selection of our kapa haka songs and then ended with a boil up kai made by our lovely Delamere!

It was a fun night had by all especially our tamariki and their whanau.
