Mother’s Day was celebrated with cookies, creativity, and connection as the children at BestStart Great North Road rolled up their sleeves to bake cookies and create colourful teapot cards with heartfelt messages for their mums.

The children took part in the entire baking process themselves, from combining mashed bananas, cocoa, and rolled oats to observing textures and colours change as they mixed the ingredients. They took turns measuring, stirring, and working together, supporting their independence, early maths skills, language development, and social confidence.

While decorating their teapot cards, each child chose their favourite paint colours to mix and shared special words about their mum, using creativity to express their love and appreciation. One child proudly shared, "I love my Mum, she takes me to the shops."

Celebrating mothers and all they do for our children is important to us. They provide care, encouragement, and endless support every day. Mother’s Day gave the children an opportunity to recognise these special relationships and express their gratitude in meaningful, hands-on ways.

The feedback from families was wonderful. One family shared, "I loved the cup of tea message," and many commented on the excitement and pride their children showed as they brought their gifts home.

These shared experiences highlight the power of play-based learning to nurture relationships, celebrate whānau, and create treasured memories.
