Today at BestStart Kelvin Grove, we proudly received our Pā-Harakeke Gold Healthy Heart Award for the fourth time!

We are incredibly proud of our ongoing commitment to providing heart-healthy kai and creating opportunities for physical activity and wellbeing for our tamariki.

To celebrate this achievement, Mariana from the Heart Foundation visited to present our certificate. She also gifted us a beautiful wind spinner for our Little Sprouts Veggie Garden. What a wonderful idea to help keep those pesky birds away!

We know the Kōwhai children will love watching it spin through the fence. The tamariki were thrilled to discover that Hearty had come along too! Everyone had the opportunity to give our special visitor a high five or a hug before receiving a special Hearty stamp.

We also enjoyed learning the Little Heart Action Song, and Mariana kindly shared the words with us so we can continue practicing together. Later, Mel and I took a group of Tōtara tamariki to install our new wind spinner in the Little Sprouts Veggie Garden. Dressed proudly in their Little Sprouts t-shirts, they eagerly set off on the adventure.

Along the way, Blaze discovered an earwig and carefully returned it to the garden. Arvia shared that she helps plant and water the garden with her Nan at home. She was a little disappointed that we couldn't pick any vegetables today, but we talked about it not being the right time for harvesting. Pravaan showed wonderful kaitiakitanga by helping to pick up a few pieces of rubbish around the garden, while Emilee excitedly helped choose the perfect spot for our new wind spinner.

What a fantastic morning of celebrating healthy hearts, caring for our environment, and working together as a community.
