Celebrating our culture
We have been working really hard on our localised curriculum over the past year and what this means for our tamariki, whānau and the wider community. We had an amazing year developing deep into this as a team and what it means to us.
Then last year at our Matariki evening and the following few months, we worked alongside our parents and whānau to create a cultural calendar with events that are important to them that they would like to see us celebrate over this year here within our centre. Each family then got given one as a Christmas present so they also know what was up and coming celebration wise here in the centre.
We thought a great way to start it off was to hold a cultural dress up day, Wow it was so lovely to see so many different cultural outfits and the proud faces of our tamariki arriving here in the morning in all their glory. We had everything from builders, rugby players, kiwi's, ballerinas and some lovely traditional outfits also.
This has now extended to our parents bringing in cultural activities from their home land to share with us all so that we can delve deeper into activities they create at home.
