Toi moana, Toi tangata - Celebrate connecting with our seas.

Sea Week is a time for all of us to get to know our ocean, its habitats, characteristics, and inhabitants better. Within our centre we have been getting involved in a range of activities, opportunities, competitions, and actions to support our tamariki and the wider community to connect with our seas.

Sea Week is also a great way to support our tamariki to develop an understanding of sustainability. During the past week, our tamariki were celebrating Sea Week. Kaiako provided different seashells, sea creatures, and some dry and wet seaweed. It was wonderful to see our young tamariki actively engaged and exploring the different textures.

Many different resources were placed around the classroom for tamariki to interact with, including a table set up with sea creatures and a book offering opportunities for tamariki to make connections between what was in front of them and the pictures found within the book. Some tamariki enjoyed a magnetic fishing game, this was a great activity for them to work on their coordination skills. Tamariki created a beautiful sparkly fish made from glitter and sequins which we now have displayed on our door.
