We had celebrated Diwali - the Indian festival of lights in the centre in November 2020.

The preparations for Diwali begun in the beginning of month with children engaging in lot of art and craft. The children made diwali lanterns, clay lamps (diyas), artwork with colour powder (rangoli) and sweets (mithai). The spirit of love and happiness was seen and felt during engagement of children in all the learning opportunities.

The children started preparing for a big day by practicing songs and dance for the Diwali show. The hindi songs were practiced over 10 days and children were involved in lot of hardwork to put up a show with teachers help.

The day of Diwali show was full of colours, laughter, and participation as we had our lovely whanau turning up to watch the children's work. The whanau praised the dancing and singing of children and were amazed to see the hardwork and efforts put in by team and tamariki.

The children enjoyed delicious food with parents which was the highlight of Diwali as the festival is all about sharing and caring. We spoke about values of Diwali with children which is victory of happiness over sadness and light over darkness. We mentioned to children that we need to care for our peers and bring happiness to them with our little good deeds.
