Challenging our bodies
The tamariki at BestStart Oamaru Kindy are loving taking risks and testing their skills on our playground equipment. Observing the children practicing their skills on the monkey bars and the high balancing beam is inspiring as they try again and again to master these skills.
While some tamariki are confident to tackle these challenges on their own others prefer the support of the kaiako. Holding two hands, then one, then just a thumb or a pinky finger gives the children that sense of security to have a go and slowly that support is no longer needed and they are ready to do it themselves! The look of pride on their faces when they accomplish the goal they have set their mind to is really something special. Our playground is often rearranged to further the challenges available to continue the gross motor skill development of our tamariki.
