The children in the Rua Room at BestStart Blenheim Central enjoyed exploring and experimenting with a new reaction science experiment.

The children helped find the ingredients, mix them in a bowl and tip them into containers to explore.

They started out by exploring the texture of the mixture. We talked about what it felt and smelt like before trying out a new experiment. A lot of children said it felt like snow.

We got some vinegar and talked about what they thought might happen when we put the vinegar into the mixture – many thought it would make a puddle.

The children used the eye droppers and found that each time they dropped vinegar into their mixture it made their mixture bubble up.

Through this experience, the children have helped prepare and set up a science experiment. They have been able to experiment with the texture of the substance using their senses. They have shared their ideas about what the texture feels like and what they think may happen when we add vinegar to the mix and they have been able to test out their theories to see if their hypothesis matches what happened.
