We at BestStart Wattle Downs have a strong and abiding relationship with the parents and whanau that inspires us to work for the children’s holistic learning and well-being. Our children are at the centre of what we do which is why they develop a sense of belonging soon after they join us. Our multicultural beliefs are reflected in our care, curriculum, and daily interactions.  Being so we constantly keep our focus on children’s Language, Identity, and Culture. For us, A child is a treasure, to be nurtured, to grow, and to flourish. The Whakataukī. (proverbs) mentioned informs our belief.

He taonga te mokopuna, kia whāngaia, kia tipu, kia rea.

Our thoughts, speeches, and actions are driven by the four principles of Te Whāriki, the New Zealand early childhood curriculum- empowerment, holistic development, family and community & relationships.

Celebration of festivals, awareness days, and events are the rituals through which we gain the trust and confidence of our parents, whanau, and the community of learners. We weave all these and more into our curriculum of play. Our classrooms are equipped with 16 areas of play where the children can explore and work on their interests, strengths, and capabilities within an ecosystem that encourages and emphasizes their diversity. This is precisely what constitutes our vision of nurturing the community of learners in an environment of diversity and inclusion.
