What a vibrant celebration we had in February as our BestStart Borman Road community came together to mark the Chinese New Year!

Families and whānau joined in the festivities, and our centre was filled with colour, creativity, and the joyful spirit of togetherness

Our children embraced a variety of hands-on experiences inspired by Chinese traditions. They designed their own paper fans and lanterns, learned about the zodiac animals, and explored Chinese calligraphy by painting the traditional “Fu” character—symbolising good luck and happiness.

We also invited the Lion Dancing Group to our centre, who brought incredible energy and excitement with their traditional lion dance performance. Everyone enjoyed the show and moved along to the lively beats. The celebrations continued with delicious tastes of Chinese culture.

Children enjoyed dumplings and crispy rice crackers—a wonderful way to share in the flavours that make this special time of year so memorable. Every child received a lucky red envelope as part of the fun and tradition. To finish, we danced with our very own dragon, bringing laughter and movement to the playground.

It was a beautiful way to honour not just Chinese culture, but also the connections within our community. Happy New Year and wishing everyone happiness in the Year of the Horse!
