Christmas at BestStart Buchanans Road
With covid restrictions Christmas looked a little different at Buchanans Road this year. In lieu of a Christmas party for our tamariki, we had a whole fun filled Christmas week. We celebrated throughout the week with fun experiences like face painting and Christmas games, Christmas craft making, creating tree decorations, singing our favourite Christmas songs, as well as dressing up and having a disco! Wow, what a week! Even all the teachers and Sonya and Melissa in the office, got into to the Christmas spirit, creating fun Christmas themed doors to make our centre look ready for Christmas.
Our Prep room teachers and tamariki also worked really hard in groups to create three plays which they performed for the other children in the centre and did such an amazing job of them! They performed the stories of Rudolph, The Grinch and The Nativity with awesome dramatic skills and gave us quite a few giggles.
We also had two lovely ladies come in to visit us with their ukeleles. They joined together with our Nursery teacher Leith, who was on her guitar, to sing some of our favourite songs with us and help us to practice our te reo Māori through waiata. Of course, we added some Christmas songs too and used our instruments to join in with the band.
Something special that we love to do each year here at BestStart Buchanans Road, to have a Christmas Giving Tree. We invite our families to bring in a gift to pop under the tree which are then donated to our local Salvation Army. A Grandparent of one of our previous ākonga works for the Salvation Army and it is lovely to catch up with them again each year in such as positive way and know that we and our amazingly generous families are supporting our local community at this time of year.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to all our families who have supported us through the year. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
