Community Excursion - Mainly Music

Here at BestStart Te Awamutu we believe it is important to create links to our community through inviting guests and whānau into our centre and going out on excursions. Recently our youngest tamariki have been joining a weekly community group run by our local church.

Singing, dancing, laughter and play have been the theme of the day as we venture off to have fun at Mainly Music, making connections and building relationships with our community. It has been heart-warming to see how music and movement has captivated our tamariki, sparking joy and fostering a holistic approach to development that nurtures both the mind and body!

Once the music comes on, our once shy tamariki begin shaking and grooving to the beat as they investigate instruments, support numerical songs such as five little ducks with their own rakiraki [duck] and follow the actions of our amazing community group.

This fun and engaging experience not only supports their motor skills but also serves as a wonderful playground for practicing language and letting their imagination run wild! The beauty of music worked its charm, making mathematical and pre-reading concepts fun and engaging. Best of all, seeing our tamariki mingle and make friends under the kind watch of Mainly Music is amazing to see. Not only has this been an amazing experience to engage with alongside our community but it is also just across the road! We can’t wait to see what other exciting experiences we can discover in our special community!
