At BestStart Naenae we are very community focused, working at forming meaningful relationships with our community. One of the ways we build these relationships is through our weekly visits to the local schools, as part of our Be School Ready initiative. During these visits we spend time in a New Entrant classroom engaging in free play, allowing korero with old friends and making new ones. Then it is time for buddy reading – our tamariki pair up with an older buddy for a story. It is wonderful to see tuakana - teina unfolding between neighbors. Next up, is mat time. This is our favorite time as we get to share our learning. Our buddy class teaches us new sign language and songs. We like to share our picture books with our buddy class. At the end of our visit we feel enriched and empowered and we take our new learning back to kindy to share with the others.
