Cook Islands music, dance, and art brought our centre to life during Cook Islands Language Week. Tamariki embraced the celebrations through movement, creativity, and cultural learning, creating treasured moments together.

Cook Islands Language Week with our tamariki and kaiako. The atmosphere was filled with joy as Cook Islands music played throughout the centre.

Our tamariki dressed in colourful hula skirts and leis, learning to move their hips to the rhythm while discovering the meaning behind each graceful action. It was a beautiful way for them to connect with the culture through movement and music.

Inside, the creativity continued as the children made their own Ei Katu — a traditional Cook Islands floral headpiece. They thoughtfully selected their favourite petals, shared ideas with one another, and proudly wore their creations.

The celebration extended into arts and crafts, where tamariki painted their own flowers, expressing themselves through colour and design.

To wrap up the week, everyone dressed in floral attire, bringing a burst of colour and joy to the centre. It was a week full of learning, laughter, and cultural appreciation. We’re excited to continue celebrating more language weeks throughout the year and deepening our understanding of the rich cultures and languages of our Pasifika communities.
